Mount Olympus Speaks!

Sword & Sandal for the Soul

Last night we watched Hercules: Prisoner of Evil, starring Reg Park. I recall watching this adventure under various other titles over the years, and I recall seeing another Hercules tale called Prisoner of Evil at some point in the past. Faulty Memory? The fluidity of Peplum titles? Who can say? But it matters not, for I love watching these movies.

In this atypical mythological epic Hercules is a barbarian chieftain vying with fierce Mongol tribes. The prize they all seek: Who among them will be the Great Khan?

There's a mysterious monster, lots of intrigue, a secret love affair with the Khan's daughter... and the return of Hercules' younger brother, a man with his own agenda.

After watching this film I unburdened myself of whatever mythic stereotypes still held sway in my psyche and opened myself up to new creative possibilities in archetypal expression.
