Mythic RPG Reviews II

I was very much impressed with Gilbert Gallo's Mythos Quick Start Guide and  Olympus,Inc, which he co-created with Charles White. So now, confident that I no longer needed Ariadne's thread to explore the Mythos Universe, I ventured boldly into the Cretan maze to meet the Queen of the Labyrinth.

I was greeted by the poet Hesiod, who promptly informed me about all that had come before (in Wine and Blood). Then a hidden presence, an old man by the sound of him, informed me of the new options available to me with Hera's undeclared entry into the Heavenly Contest. New heroic concepts, a new type of entity to incarnate into (the Minospawn), new Skills, new Hindrances, even new Gear...

He then offered me a goblet of wine, which clouded my memory somewhat. I mumbled, 'Praise the Queen of Heaven for expanding my range of possibilities!'

Then I received instruction about Hera and her Mystery Cults. I felt the power and influence of Daemons, the Psyche, and Proteus, who also serves Love.

And then I was taught about the Realms of Minos and the Sunset Lands in the West. More about Daemons was revealed to me shortly thereafter, and I memorized everything the venerable old man said. He even confided a great secret to me, one that could doom the House of Minos, then told me of the markings on the wall that will lead me to it. Some helpful hints on surviving my ordeal were also shared, as was the true nature of the maze, which he claimed to have designed.

Then, I was escorted to the Labyrinth. The sacred structure surprised me as portions of it lay in ruins. Cretan archers were stationed along the walls and, upon seeing me, they armed their bows with cruel arrows, drew back their bow strings until they were taut, and then slowly, and with much deliberation, aimed them... at me!

The elder yelled 'Run!', and I did, straight into the twisting structure. The arrows rained upon me and clattered as they hit the flagstones and walls around me.

Much Later: I survived the Labyrinth but did not find the old man's secret place. I escaped through one of his hidden exits and have joined his heroic resistance against the Minoan oppressors. As I continue seeking for Deadalus' secret lab, I rescue others from the Bull-Men and their deadly maze... and our movement grows!

The Labyrinth is vast and treacherous. Even I am often baffled by it and none now know it better than I, save its builder. Occasionally I encounter others, cultists who chant hymns to Hera, the Queen of the Labyrinth. They too seek something but will not share the details of their quests with me as I have yet to take the vows.

Perhaps some day I will. Though I can now enter and exit the structure with little chance of detection, the Labyrinth has claimed me, as it has countless others.

Mythos: Queen of the Labyrinth is a fresh new take on the Minotaur mythology of Minoan Crete and provides a gaming experience that is endlessly replayable. The mechanics for running it on the cuff are simple and brilliant. I'm looking forward to incorporating most of the elements into my own campaign's Minoan Labyrinth!

Awesome job Gilbert Gallo and Mystical Throne Entertainment!

Onwards!
