Charles Atlas (R)
Physical Culturalist and Strongman Angelo Siciliano (1893 - 1972) changed his name to Charles Atlas (R) in 1922 and became a cultural icon representing strength, health and fitness in his own lifetime. He is billed, in his A&E Biography, as a Modern Day Hercules. Indeed, he is said to have been inspired by a statue of Hercules in the Brooklyn Museum to pursue his life-path.
Also known as The World's Most Perfectly Developed Man, Charles Atlas (R) bequeathed to us his Dynamic-Tension (R) system through a series of twelve lessons, a maintenance program and supplemental fitness material.
His life work, legend and legacy are preserved and perpetuated by Charles Atlas, Ltd. To honor the hero who inspired him, Mr. Atlas named his son Hercules.
