It is said that in antiquity there was a lost Epic of Hercules. Only faint hints of it remain, echoing through the surviving tales. In modern times Anchor Bay Entertainment has reclaimed this legacy and has preserved Hercules: The Legendary Journeys for posterity, conveniently... on DVD.
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
Yes Virginia, There Is A Hercules
In Season Four's fifteenth episode we learn that not only does Hercules survive into our modern era but that he is in fact pretending to be an actor named Kevin Sorbo. Ares causes an earthquake to distract our hero while the War God endeavors to destroy his popular TV show Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. This comic tale includes the infamous Chimpules: The Mightiest Primate sequence.

For Those Of You Just Joining Us
In the ninth episode of Season Five Kevin Sorbo, who is in reality Hercules the son of Zeus, attempts to keep his identity a secret while protecting his show's writers from Ares who, disguised as a studio executive, endeavors to destroy them all during a retreat.
Several episodes of Xena: Warrior Princess transpired in modern times as well. Xena and Gabrielle reincarnated into our era - and were also cloned. Had either series continued it would have been interesting to see all three heroes (and OK, maybe Joxer as well) join forces to fight evil in the world we care about the most: our own.
